Greetings from FestivaLink.net HQ!

We've been listening to a lot of music lately, and will soon have some offerings for you from Yarmony Grass, the coolest festival you never heard of, where jam meets progressive western bluegrass in a beautiful spot on the Colorado River.

Over the holidays, our friends at Bloodshot Records found a few live releases in their archives to share with our listeners:

Sample a show from Austin's Continental Club by the Texas swing artist, Wayne "the Train" Hancock, from a couple years back. Two raucous evenings were culled by Lloyd Maines for a release that is archetypal Wayne Hancock.

The second is from Austin's critically-acclaimed Alejandro Escovedo. In the mid-nineties, he toured Europe and the US with his Orchestra, compiling the experience into one exceptional release. This is a chance to become familiar with this confessional songwriter, in his alt-country-with-cello manifestation.

Did you get our note in December about the Old Town School of Folk Music Songbook? It's a 4-volume release, also with Bloodshot Records, captured over 40 years of the school's history. When Harry Smith compiled his "Anthology of American Folk Music" in the late 50's it sparked the folk revival and inspired countless artists including Baez and Garcia as they explored the deep roots of American music. The Old Town School Songbook follows in this tradition, with 80+ tunes spanning many forms of folk - from work songs and protest songs, to love and murder ballads and beyond. If you play folk or acoustic music, this collection in digital form is an exceptional learning tool, and a darn entertaining listen as well.

Best wishes,

Ann and the other music lovers at FestivaLink.net HQ
